This spring, I’m all about flowy dresses, dancing barefoot, and stepping out in statement mules. I’ve been keeping my hair in braided extensions. They’re great for easy updos, and headwrap styles. They’re also perfect for adding drama to my fancy dance moves, that often include shaking my head, shimmying, and a little hip shaking. OK, maybe they’re not that fancy, but they’re pretty fun!
This brown polka dot dress from ANTHROPOLOGY is a dream! It’s an easy fix for fun and flirty outfit. It’s very mom friendly, and it’s also a perfect transition piece. I took it to NYC with me last week, and layered it with a light turtle neck and jeans since it’s not technically spring weather yet. For this fun lewk, I went with a leopard print headwrap from FANM DJANM, light blue sunnies with matching flat light blue sandals also from ANTHRO.
Have you heard of Lena Hoschek? I hadn’t either until I received an email from their marketing team stating they made a collection for ME, and upon clicking on their website, they weren’t lying! Their Tutti Fruitti collection is to DIE FOR! From the stunning prints to the captivating and playful silhouettes, I was sold! For this spring lewk, I’m wearing their Esperanza skirt paired with their Rabazamba blouse. I completed the look with denim flats from Dune London, a colorful bag I purchased on consignment from the RealReal, and a navy blue FANM DJANM headwrap.
SHOP THESE SHOES…
I call this my minimalist statement look. I know… oxymoron? I really do think something can be a statement and minimal. No? OK, fine! Let me explain, the colors are understated, they range from a light beige to nude, but every piece is a statement. From the sheer blouse with bold sleeves to the wrap checked skirt (both purchased from STYLE MAFIA before they became SIMONETT), to pointed bow mules by BROTHER VELLIES, FANM DJANM arm bangles, and some gorgeous olive green shades by COCO AND BREEZY, we are hear to say , “Hello my darlings, we have arrived. And let it be known.”
Statement kaftans are my jam! The purple ruffled work of art is designed my an old friend and was shipped from Senegal. She owns SASSY CHIC in Dakar where she creates original designs and curates delightful pieces like this made by African artisans for her shop. I was over the moon when I received this special package from her. And the blue embroidered piece with the matching headwrap is one of the FANM DJANM’s new items (to be released soon). Basically, we’re trying to bring you FAVORITE AUNTIE VIBES all summer long.
Having giant fibroids has made it difficult to fit into everything I used to. Flowy maxi dresses make it easier. I can no longer wear fitted clothes. Well, I can, but when I do, I’m often asked about how far along I am even though I’m not pregnant. It’s almost like… It’s impossible to be tall, thin, and have a belly. And pregnancy is the only answer. Peplum tops, blazers and loose dresses have become my go-to.
I like a good maxi with a high slit. They’re easy to layer with pants and a turtle neck, and perfect for date night in the spring/summer. I wanted to bring this already bold look to another dimension by creating a bright green eye. This would have been perfect with golden lids and a red lip too, but it’s already expected of me. I like to take chances and I don’t always like to be safe. Bright eye shadows and liners are a fun way to express color. I like to wear them with a new lip and minimal face makeup.
The flats are from DUNE LONDON, the dress was purchased from DYLAN WYLDE, a local Austin shop, and the headwrap is our SPOTS headwrap from FANM DJANM.
I’m excited to take full advantage of the warm weather with Zuli. I can’t wait for our first outdoor picnics, taking her to the pools, and dressing up in more prints and color!
Disclaimer: I was gifted items from Anthropologie, Dune Lone, Sassy Chic, and Lena Hoschek. I was not paid by those brands. All opinions are my own.
