NYC Adventures: A night with Zing

March 22, 2013 by findingpaola

“In one word, describe Zing Experience and what the band means to you.” That was the question my partner Natalia and I asked fans who came to see Zing perform during their album release party at Webster Hall, a couple of weeks ago. The answers were all very different and special in their own way. “Roots,” said Regine, founder of Haiti Cultural Exchange and long time supporter of Zing Experience and the Beaubrun family. “Unique,” added an older gentleman. “Original” […]

Greener than green

May 11, 2011 by findingpaola

We hugged the earth with our bodies, allowing each grass leaf surrounding us to feel our lively presence. Eyes wide open, mouths shaped into big caricatures of smiles, we sat and perused the park. Men flying kites, teenagers playing Frisbee, kids running around. Everyone seemed to be enjoying the weather. Of all days of the year, I still stand by my words, “Friday, May 6, was the best day New York City had experienced in 2011”. It was about seventy-one […]

retro fun

April 25, 2011 by findingpaola

Sarita and I headed to FOREVER 21, a fashion store that sells the latest trends at very affordable prices. The store is a gigantic box of four levels, filled with pre-teens and other young adults. It carries so many different styles that mostly everyone will find something they like. The music is loud, the mannequins are decorated in layers of of cheap, stylish clothing and accessories. Every employee has a style of his own. We found two graphic tank tops and […]

Turquoise, red and yellow color combination

Colorful Spring!

April 22, 2011 by findingpaola

“In the Spring a livelier iris changes on the burnish’d dove; In the Spring a young man’s fancy lightly turns to thoughts of love” Turquoise, red and yellow color combination My love for color has never diminished and I doubt that it ever will. In my high school years, I was the girl with the super bright tights and very colorful wardrobe. I love seeing colors and that is why i love the spring time. Spring brings the beauty and color […]

no looking back

April 12, 2011 by findingpaola

It was exactly 6:12 AM when I slowly unfolded myself from bed. My eyes were half open, and my phone buzzed. I squinted and managed to read the words, “Are you still going?” My co-worker Kyle, whom I was supposed to meet at the race, messaged me right on time. Without thinking, I moved my fingers on the keypad and replied, “Yes!” Message sent. There’s no backing out now. I walked around the room, that only took three seconds because my […]

One of the most memorable nights in NYC...

Deep breath.

June 9, 2009 by findingpaola

A few weeks ago, my mother said to me in Kreyol, “Mwen pa konnen ki sa ou t’ap fè si nou pat janm vi’n na peyi saa.” (I’m not sure what you would do if we never came to this country.) She called me while I was at work,  and we were having one of our usual mother-daughter conversations. I would ask her how she was doing,  she would respond in the same manner she always had.  Then, she would […]
