Holi NYC: Festival of Colors!

April 11, 2013 by findingpaola

Last Saturday was definitely not a lazy day. Natalia and I ran around from Harlem to Brooklyn as we shot our third episode of the Finding Paola Web Series, hula hooped to Haitian music on my roof with Soukena, and made time to join some friends at the Festival of Colors all the way, deep down in Brooklyn. These past few months have been very busy for me as I’ve been working very hard on my personal projects while still […]

Shopping in Harlem: Trunk Show Designer Consignment

February 26, 2013 by findingpaola

A chic Harlem consignment boutique with a hip Parisian flair? Does such a thing exist? Oh yes. Yes, it does. Trunk Show Designer Consignment (or TSDC) occupies a small but significant piece of 113th street at Frederick Douglas Boulevard.  Just like its website describes, it truly is a luxury haven in Harlem. Owned by  two women in their early twenties, the small shop caters to the fashionable crowd (both men and women) with expensive taste who likes to save a […]

NYC adventures: Blizzard dance party

February 9, 2013 by findingpaola

The weather outside looked frightful. Straight up terrifying, but I was intrigued. I grabbed my camera, and went on a stroll through Central Park. I passed lovers making out under an arch because well… making out under an arch in Central Park in a snow storm is down right romantic. I passed kids attempting and failing at sledding.  Silly kids couldn’t wait for the next day, they were eager to slide down hills on their sleds and cardboard boxes. I […]

2013: The year of the sparkles, kisses, and fire!

January 3, 2013 by findingpaola

It’s 2013! Although many might think of it as the year of the Hamster, it’s really the year of Sparkles. The year where possibilities are endless. The year where the true meaning of  family, success, happiness, health, and love stands. At least according to the note cards I filled out with colorful pencils before everyone showed up. And based on the way my party turned out, I will also add that it’s a year a long, meaningful friendship. […]

Holiday spirit in the air

December 19, 2012 by findingpaola

Enjoy this compilation of holiday themed pictures around my apartment and all over NYC. From Harlem to Lower East Side, Christmas tree vendors set up their tents. Giant trucks make daily tree deliveries. Every 10-blocks, giant green trees stand in groups guarded by a holiday themed tent. Men in flannels and thick sweaters wrap up trees. The refreshing smell of pine brings a smile to face. It’s Noel in NYC. It is indeed the most beautiful time of the year. […]

A day with Gessica Geneus in Harlem

December 4, 2012 by findingpaola

This past Saturday, I walked up to 125th and Lenox to meet with Haitian actress, Gessica Geneus. I thought it would be a great idea to hang out in my favorite New York neighborhood since I’m sure she had already been to Soho and all of the other intriguing districts. She stopped in New York City for a week on her way to Haiti from Paris, and I was really excited when she messaged me to meet up with her. We […]

Art in Harlem: “Le Retour” by Ousmane Gueye

November 27, 2012 by findingpaola

As I was taking a stroll through Harlem on a sunny Saturday afternoon, I stumbled upon an art gallery. I remember thinking that I’ve walked this intersection of Harlem many times and have never noticed it. I stopped to admire the artwork  when I noticed a figure inside the gallery waving at me from a distance. Naturally, I waved back, then heard the sound of a buzzer, which led me to open the door. A blank wall featured the words: […]

Tucked away on one of the busiest streets in Harlem, this chic and stunningly decorated boutique offers a variety of modern and vintage designer goods for the fashionable and thrifty New Yorker. At JB B.O.R.N. (borrowed, old, refurbished, new), each item is carefully selected by the charming and interesting store owner, Jonathan Bodrick.
