Hangin’ with Contemporary Negro- And the winner is…

September 3, 2012 by findingpaola

Last Friday, I met with Avi of Contemporary Negro in Union Square to get the prize for the giveaway. It’s always great to people-watch in the square. There’s always so much going on! There was this guy (not homeless or anything) just feeding pigeons peanuts out of his hands. Young kids were dancing to hip hop in one corner, having a great time. I love how lively it is. Happy Harlem

July 13, 2011 by findingpaola

I was meeting an old colleague from my old days of being a research assistant at Columbia. I walked to the door man, in this case, gatekeeper and said, “I’m meeting a friend here.” The dark-skinned man with an enormous grin replied, “Is it a man? Go get ‘im baby!” That was awkward, considering his job was to check my ID and welcome me. I was at the Harlem Tavern, Beer Garden, Kitchen and Bar. The place was at full occupancy once again. […]
