I scored this little red number at JB B.O.R.N., a consignment boutique on 125th. It’s an amazing gem in Harlem run by some of the friendliest and most enthusiastic men in the business. They still can’t pronounce my name properly, but I’ve never stepped foot in there and not left with a big smile on my face. I spotted this little red Diane von Furstenberg silk dress, gave it a big smile, and put it down. When Anita saw it, she told me I couldn’t leave the store without it. Without a fuss or trying it on, I grabbed it as an addition to the classic pieces for my closet. If you’ve followed my style posts before, you know that I shop a lot in thrift stores, department stores, and online flash sale stores. I’m just always looking for the best deal to look great. I’ve also been working on adding more classic pieces in my wardrobe like that DvF dress because they can be worn forever.
Red is my favorite color, and the dress gives me such a feminine silhouette. I didn’t know what to do with myself when I wore it! This seems very true for DvF dresses. I own another red one that just accentuates my waist and gives me such a long, feminine profile. While I may not be able to afford a brand new $400 DvF dress, I thank consignment stores that let me have them for under $100! Thank you rich person who doesn’t wear out of season designer goods! I really don’t care for the season of the dress as long as it looks and makes me feel good so I’m very grateful.
I paired the dress with a red hat I bought from TJMaxx two winters ago and some sequined BCBG heels. I felt and looked like a lady. Sophisticated lady!
