Faces of Fanm Djanm is a monthly feature on strong women who have interesting stories to share. With that new project, we’re looking to spread positivity, great energy, something new and refreshing, fun personalities, and beauty. We think the Face of Fanm Djanm learns from her past and moves forward with a positive attitude on life. And most importantly, her story inspires other women to be strong. We ask questions about their lives and some of the difficult things they’ve had to endure, and what keeps them going.
We are happy to introduce the very first Face of Fanm Djanm below.
Full Name: Cacsmy Brutus
Origin: Born in Brooklyn, Bred in Haiti
Age: 24 Read her story here.
Here’s how I met Cacsmy…
Last month, I hosted a sip/shop event at Rena Reborn, and she attended to purchase one of my wraps. Even in the middle of a conversation with a customer, I noticed her as soon as she walked in. The first thing I noticed was her beautiful face, then her crutches. She came alone, and while she was browsing through the different wraps, I approached her to say hello. I wrapped “The Unmask” on her head, and she just looked so gorgeous with it on!
She hung around, and we started talking a bit more when one of my friends asked her what happened to her leg. Without flinching she responded, “I had bone cancer.” The way she smiled, then said the words really hit me. I didn’t even realize she had a prosthetic leg until she mentioned it. When I complimented her on a necklace she was wearing, she told me she got it from Thailand, and that’s when I had the idea to start Face of Fanm Djanm. Our brief conversation at the event opened my eyes to make Fanm Djanm even more than the headwrap line. I knew I wanted to tell stories of beautiful women that we see everyday, yet we know nothing about them.
Cacsmy truly inspired me that night. I’m not sure she knows how her presence impacted me. And I’m not sure I even knew until I got home later from my event. I was thinking… This girl lost her leg years ago (to cancer), yet she travels the world, gets out of her comfort zone, comes events like mine (alone), and just embraces the world. To me that was just amazing! I’m so happy my project gives me the opportunity to meet such beautiful souls like her.
