Haitian Beauty: Tico Armand

“Walking around with a baldhead is like walking around naked, people will eventually stare, and it’s a natural reaction.”- Tico Armand

It’s almost impossible not to give Tico Armand a second look when her presence is near. She oozes confidence, and does not let others’ opinions get in the way of her success. The Haitian beauty is a model, actress, poet, and humanitarian. From the way she wears her bald head with pride to her stunning features, she attracted and kept my attention from the very first time I saw her photos.

One of the first things I noticed when I saw Tico’s pictures was her striking bone structure. Then, I really couldn’t understand how her head was shaped so perfectly! Her strong presence in every picture, and indelible confidence are just a small part of her charm. Her beauty inspires, and her amazing personality captivates everyone around her.

I sent Tico a few questions, and her answers were extremely touching. Tico Armand is a true example of pure beauty. Here is what she had to say below…

Were you born in Haiti?

First off Pao, let me express my gratitude towards you for the honor and applaud the wonderful job you’ve been doing.I was born in Ayiti and migrated to the US at the age of 5.

Are you fluent in Kreyol or French?

I understand French however I know very little. When I went to France, I recall looking like a fool because my French is broken. However, I’m very fluent in Kreyol. Growing up I always had to respond in Kreyol in my household therefore the language stayed with me and I wouldn’t want it any other way.

How do people react when they find out you’re from Haiti?

You know what Pao, ignorance is bliss and it’s sad. The reactions that I get when people find out I’m Haitian is beyond hysterical. They are always in disbelief but I blame that perception on society and the human race for being so tolerable with what society foists on them.

What do you do?

Besides modeling, I’m an actress, poet and a humanitarian at heart. I’m a believer in giving back to the community and the children because not only are they the future of our tomorrow, giving is the true fulfillment of life.

I’m sure you hear it often, you’re beautiful! What are some of your beauty secrets?

Beauty is skin deep, Pao. However I will say my secret is living a life that serves others, that brings about smiles, encouragement, upliftment and love. Those are the secrets to staying forever young.

What made you shave your head the very first time?

Going to share a secret with you and this remains between your million (Ha! She said millions, silly Tico) of viewers, supporters, and you and me, lol. I have a phobia of spiders and that is exactly how hair feels on my skin, like a spider crawling, making it’s way to my ears or what not. Braids are not so bad but I can only do hair for so long before my mind takes me on a chase.
I’m not a believer of a woman’s hair being her veil although that’s what I was brought up to believe. I’m a believer of confidence; I’m a believer of going against the grain as long as it feels right. Like India Irie, “I am not my hair!” I’m not crazy I’m just free spirited.

When you walk around with a bald head, how do people react to it?

Walking around with a bald head is like walking around naked, people will eventually stare, and it’s a natural reaction. Their mind wander on whether I have cancer, I’m crazy or wondering what planet did I fall of off, lol. I can’t complain because I love it.

How do you stay fit?

Ayy Pao, I’m a picky eater but I love food. Sad, but you know us Haitians love our fritay, it’s in our blood to thirst after fried food….But I’ve cut all that out. I’m an Italian lover of food from pasta to pizza however that’s been cut out as well. Staying fit is more so on what you allow to enter your body. Controlling our mouths would help us tremendously. I go for long runs on the beach. I do a little boxing, I dance a lot and my self-conscious will not allow me to go a week without some kind of exercise.

How would you describe yourself?

How would I describe myself….hmm why would you save the hardest question for last, lol. I’m not a fan of talking about myself but for you I’ll give it my best shot. I’m passionate, driven, I love hard, I’m a goofball, I’m practical, I’m observant but most important I’m a big kid enjoying the runway of life with my heels in one hand, my heart in the other and my head angled for success. Thank you Pao, it was great!!
