Fall weekend style and some October events

A Saturday night in Harlem, I wasn’t going too far, so I settled with comfy burgundy wedges, a black flirty skirt, animal print top, and electric blue blazer. I realize this morning this is the last time this year, I will be able to wear a short skirt without stockings or leggings. Although the temperature has dropped dramatically, there are still some things that keep me excited for the upcoming weeks! It’s the season for charitable events. I’ve been to an amazing one hosted by PPAF last week. I was able to meet the Consulate General of Haiti, and chat with some reputable Haitian people who are making a difference in the Haitian community in the US and in Haiti.

This week, I am invited to Fresh Water Pop Up Shop’s event at Greenhouse, NYC. The event is to benefit a new Haiti initiative that is working to bring fresh water to Haiti.

When I lived in Haiti, water was not available all day like it is in the US. There would be designated hours that the water would come on, and people who had the means, had their own water pipes, and would fill buckets and drums to preserve water for daily use. Other people,  who didn’t have that luxury, used to go to a public fountain to fill giant containers. Since so many people needed the water, and the water was only one for a number of hours, they would fight each other just to get in front of the line. I would hear screams and shouts, and often, there would be reports of someone getting seriously injured, or stabbed. All of that commotion was so people would be able to go home with a bucket full of water on their heads. Small kids would bring gallons to carry, while their moms managed to walk with two buckets full of water on their heads. So, I know that water is extremely important to Haiti. Not only am I attending this event, I have one free ticket to give away! Come to enjoy the arts, and shop to support Haiti.

In two weeks, on Thursday, October 25, 2012,  I am collaborating with rena Reborn,a thrift store in the East Village for a fashion/mingling event. A large percentage of my wardrobe comes from second-hand stores, and I thought it would be fun to invite some friends to one of my favorites in the East Village. All items in the store will be discounted at 15! You’re invited to come, meet, sip, and shop. %. There will also be some giveaways!

Thank you so much! I bought them a while ago at Forever21. While I do not condone buying shoes there since they’re pretty much a two-time wear, I just couldn’t let them down. I love burgundy in the fall!

I definitely agree with you about their shoes (and clothes for that matter). In this case though, yours look AMAZING.
