Katie Time!

December 28, 2012 by findingpaola

Katie is the kind of friend that I always expect to have an eventful time with when we go out. The weirdest things happen at times, but it’s all fun and entertaining. Last week we celebrated the end of the world that didn’t end and her birthday just two days apart from each other. And let me tell you, both times had some amazing memories. It just always happen, I hang out with Katie, and there’s something to talk about […]

Holiday spirit in the air

December 19, 2012 by findingpaola

Enjoy this compilation of holiday themed pictures around my apartment and all over NYC. From Harlem to Lower East Side, Christmas tree vendors set up their tents. Giant trucks make daily tree deliveries. Every 10-blocks, giant green trees stand in groups guarded by a holiday themed tent. Men in flannels and thick sweaters wrap up trees. The refreshing smell of pine brings a smile to face. It’s Noel in NYC. It is indeed the most beautiful time of the year. […]

Holiday kisses

December 16, 2012 by findingpaola

I recently went to a holiday party in Jersey City to visit a college friend I hadn’t seen in 4 years. She hosted a fabulous party that involved a “white elephant” gift exchange, bottomless drinks (including eggnog), delicious snacks and hors d’oeuvres, fireworks, and kisses under the mistletoe. Everyone had a fabulous time! It was so great, I won’t even get into the details on how we got stranded in Jersey because the Path closed down early (thanks to Hurricane […]

Afro girls and their violins

November 29, 2012 by findingpaola

I’ve mention this before, one of the things I find most charming about New York City is the talented and interesting subway performers that come through and leave their mark. I’ve got a favorite subway singer, Danny Small, also known as, “The Singing Dragon”. His raspy voice and captivating personality makes the wait on the subway platform so much more bearable. The rats running on the tracks no longer matter. The crazy homeless man cursing fades away. And all I […]

Pass the loving, please

November 23, 2012 by findingpaola

Wednesday evening, traveling between NYC to New Jersey was chaos. On the busiest travel days of the year, Penn Station was shut down, which led a large number of the commuters to Port Authority as an alternative way of getting home for the holidays. After a very frustrating wait to get my bus ticket to visit my parents, and an even more maddening experience at the unorganized bus lines, I made it safely to my parents’. My brother and […]

Family meal and quality time

November 20, 2012 by findingpaola

The weekend Tyler and I went to Boston to visit his brother and sister-in-law, we decided to dedicate one night to home-cooking. This means, Tyler does all of the cooking. Keith airs out the apartment when it got too smoky. And I sit with Anita with our legs up basking in the apartment’s amenities, covered in plush, warm blankets with a glass of wine, and watching New Girl on Hulu. Isn’t Zoey Deschanel the cutest!? I contributed by cutting the Brussels sprouts […]

Hurricane Sandy Rebuilding in Staten Island

November 19, 2012 by findingpaola

Yesterday, I had to opportunity to link up with some alumni from my alma mater to volunteer in Staten Island at the homes that were deeply affected by Hurricane Sandy. Just as I was looking for a way to help out, I received a Facebook invitation from Yasin, an old school mate about the event. I went there with no idea of what I was going to do, or how I would help. I got on the bus to an […]

Double birthday weekend in Boston

November 13, 2012 by findingpaola

Today is my wonderful boyfriend’s birthday! To begin the celebrations, we hopped on a bus to Boston to stay with his brother Keith and wife Anita for a weekend filled with great food and fun times. It turns out that Anita’s birthday falls one day after Tyler’s so we had all the reasons to drink bubblies and enjoy fancy meals. We were able to see Tyler’s sister and mother on the trip also, which made the weekend very special for […]
