Haiti Film Fest in NYC

May 14, 2013 by findingpaola

After an exhausting search for positive programs in the Haitian community in the New York City area for a very long time, I’m happy to say that my wish finally came true. Just a year ago, I was a complete stranger to Haitian activities in New York. My blog was mostly focused on my lifestyle in New York as a young (Haitian) woman. Now I’m so happy to include more of my Haitian culture in the blog. Since I started […]

NYC adventures: Blizzard dance party

February 9, 2013 by findingpaola

The weather outside looked frightful. Straight up terrifying, but I was intrigued. I grabbed my camera, and went on a stroll through Central Park. I passed lovers making out under an arch because well… making out under an arch in Central Park in a snow storm is down right romantic. I passed kids attempting and failing at sledding.  Silly kids couldn’t wait for the next day, they were eager to slide down hills on their sleds and cardboard boxes. I […]

Saturday Brunch Party at Lavo

January 11, 2013 by findingpaola

I went to a 4pm dance party at Lavo last Saturday. I decided to wear something easy, fun, and comfy to dance in. Nothing fits the deal more than a good cropped top and high-waisted pants! I decided on soft pink lips since I’ve been stuck on red, burgundy and hot pink lately, and a somewhat bold cat-eye for a little bit of retro pop Pao! The friend who invited me called the event “brunch”, but if someone blind folded […]

Live music, fun drinks, and good dancing

December 20, 2012 by findingpaola

Friday night sure is fun at Toshi’s Living Room. A live band entertains guests who are sipping fun cocktails as passersby peek in to see where all the fun is coming from. Paul Beaubrun of Zing Experience (son of the founders of Boukman Eksperyans) also spins there. I went to meet Soukena, my new Haitian partner in crime there to celebrate the birthday of a friend. It was Anastasia’s birthday, and it was obvious! For the evening, she wore a beautiful […]

Dancing in Harlem: Shrine World Music Venue

November 5, 2012 by findingpaola

Because we like to party! A taxi up to Adam Clayton Powell between 133rd and 134th, please! That’s the address to a good (dancing) time in Harlem. During the summer I would walk, but it’s close enough that I can cab it with some friends without breaking the bank. When it comes to dancing all night to great music, Shrine World Music Venue never disappoints. The small, quaint party box caters to all crowds, specifically those who appreciate Jazz, Caribbean, […]

Halloween 2012- Grace Jones!

November 2, 2012 by findingpaola

Last Saturday was one of the most exciting nights of my life! The evening started with helping some friends decorate their amazing apartment for a Halloween party. Right after I got dressed, Jess and I made our way uptown for a thrilling adventure. I got to watch Grace Jones live in Roseland Ballroom NYC, and my love for her grew tremendously. I’ve always admired the model turned actress turned international superstar. From her unique looks, to her beautiful accent, her […]

dance, dance, dance

October 24, 2012 by findingpaola

Saturday was a day for letting loose. By that, I mean, rolling the shoulder back, rocking your head from side to side, and occasionally do a dip on the dance floor. Jumping and spinning also works. Closing your eyes and imagine the dance floor is your bedroom with no one around to judge you is usually how I like to let loose. I’m a terrible dancer, I really am. But that’s how I have fun. I do some high kicks, […]

“Everyday People”

October 23, 2012 by findingpaola

Another memorable and intriguing party hits the NYC party scene dubbed, “Everyday People.” Hosted by celebrity chef, Roble Ali, Everyday People is a monthly Saturday day-time party/brunch. Cover girls wearing high top sneakers, fitted caps, and neon purses jump around to great 90′s tunes, hip hop and reggae with other industry people. Model DJ’s, popular r&b singers, artists, fashion bloggers, and different stylish New Yorkers all unite under one roof to shake the dance floor. The atmosphere is cool and […]
