Abby’s intimate birthday

June 4, 2013 by findingpaola

A cold rainy storm ruined the big rooftop extravaganza we had planned for Abby’s birthday. We were ready to repeat last year’s fun fest when mother nature defied us once again. After much consideration, Abby didnt cancel the party, but decided to have something much more intimate with fewer friends. So, I smacked on my hottest pink lipstick, and headed out the door in my party hat and dancing boots. Mother nature, you might have won the battle but not […]

Yummy foods at Smorgasburg

May 30, 2013 by findingpaola

Last Sunday, after a horrible week of cold and rainy weather, the sun came out just enough to encourage my boyfriend and I to head down to Brooklyn to check out Smorgasburg. I first heard about the open food market from an old co-worker. New York City has a plethora of great dining options that won’t break the bank, and it’s just up to us to find them. If you’re really into great food and like to try a variety […]

Picnic in Central Park

May 29, 2013 by findingpaola

It’s spring time in New York City! Finally, we can frolic with our friends with no worries. Well, no worries of freezing to death is what I mean. We also have the freedom to wear less, yes! Less! Shorts, tanks, sandals, dresses… Should I keep going? It’s also picnic, rooftop party, and street festival time! A great picnic with many things and people to play with is one of my favorite things to do in New York City. There are […]

Haiti Film Fest in NYC

May 14, 2013 by findingpaola

After an exhausting search for positive programs in the Haitian community in the New York City area for a very long time, I’m happy to say that my wish finally came true. Just a year ago, I was a complete stranger to Haitian activities in New York. My blog was mostly focused on my lifestyle in New York as a young (Haitian) woman. Now I’m so happy to include more of my Haitian culture in the blog. Since I started […]

Sunday stroll through the High Line

April 29, 2013 by findingpaola

Spring has sprung, and the High Line is alive! I love strolling through the elevated park during the spring and summer seasons. Beautiful flowers and plants add color and life to what a historical freight rail line. Amazing street performers keep passers-by entertained. Great snack vendors make it convenient for visitors to have refreshments. Art-work is also displayed both on and near the high-line.  The beautiful and luxurious apartment complexes also add to the fun of the park. As I walk […]

NYC adventures: The Orchid Show

April 24, 2013 by findingpaola

The 11th annual exhibition celebrates this storied flower in all its amazing forms with thousands of brilliantly colored orchids. The largest exhibition of its kind in the United States also offers insight into caring for orchids, music from around the world, and a gorgeous setting for evening cocktails. The perfect date idea? Cocktails while looking at beautiful flowers at the New York Botanical Garden. The Orchid show happened every weekend between March 2-April 22. I made sure Tyler got a […]

Holi NYC: Festival of Colors!

April 11, 2013 by findingpaola

Last Saturday was definitely not a lazy day. Natalia and I ran around from Harlem to Brooklyn as we shot our third episode of the Finding Paola Web Series, hula hooped to Haitian music on my roof with Soukena, and made time to join some friends at the Festival of Colors all the way, deep down in Brooklyn. These past few months have been very busy for me as I’ve been working very hard on my personal projects while still […]

NYC Adventures: A night with Zing

March 22, 2013 by findingpaola

“In one word, describe Zing Experience and what the band means to you.” That was the question my partner Natalia and I asked fans who came to see Zing perform during their album release party at Webster Hall, a couple of weeks ago. The answers were all very different and special in their own way. “Roots,” said Regine, founder of Haiti Cultural Exchange and long time supporter of Zing Experience and the Beaubrun family. “Unique,” added an older gentleman. “Original” […]
