Health, fitness, beauty: Challenges for February

February 1, 2013 by findingpaola

Since I’ve been working incredibly long hours lately both in my regular day job and side projects, I decided to start giving myself health and fitness, and sometimes beauty challenges every month. There is certainly nothing healthy about staying at your desk for 13 hours straight trying to tie numbers in, or sitting the apartment all day on weekends to work on side projects. For February, I decided to come up with the following: Fitness: running 3 miles,  four […]

Health post: 7 days of green smoothies later

January 14, 2013 by findingpaola

This past week alone, I know I consumed 7 cups of kale, 6 cups of spinach, six apples, 4 grapefruits, one bunch of parsley, 6 tbsp of Chia seeds, 4 tbsp of Hempseeds, 3 tbsp. of flaxseed, 10 bananas, and lots and lots of berries! In terms of greens, I’m not counting different salads and other dishes I’ve had, isn’t that fantastic? I love a good salad. I’d like to say that I’m now in love with green smoothies. I […]

Health post: The green smoothie

January 7, 2013 by findingpaola

In addition to getting my super energetic butt back in shape, I decided to discipline my body and start a 30-day green smoothie challenge. The green smoothie challenge is not really a diet unless you want it to be. It’s to train your body to consume more greens and veggies on a daily basis. The green smoothie can replace one-two meals a day and each serving is about 2 cups or 16 ounces. I’m replacing my breakfast with the smoothie, […]

Pass the loving, please

November 23, 2012 by findingpaola

Wednesday evening, traveling between NYC to New Jersey was chaos. On the busiest travel days of the year, Penn Station was shut down, which led a large number of the commuters to Port Authority as an alternative way of getting home for the holidays. After a very frustrating wait to get my bus ticket to visit my parents, and an even more maddening experience at the unorganized bus lines, I made it safely to my parents’. My brother and […]

Family meal and quality time

November 20, 2012 by findingpaola

The weekend Tyler and I went to Boston to visit his brother and sister-in-law, we decided to dedicate one night to home-cooking. This means, Tyler does all of the cooking. Keith airs out the apartment when it got too smoky. And I sit with Anita with our legs up basking in the apartment’s amenities, covered in plush, warm blankets with a glass of wine, and watching New Girl on Hulu. Isn’t Zoey Deschanel the cutest!? I contributed by cutting the Brussels sprouts […]

City cooking: Creamy chicken mushroom pasta

November 9, 2012 by findingpaola

One of my really good friends moved to NYC recently, and I was just thinking how ironic it is that now she lives here, we see each other  just as much (if not less than) when she used to just visit. She actually lives walking distance from my job, and our apartments are about 6 stops from my subway line. I knew something had to change! I came up with a great way to see her more often, and that […]

Dancing in Harlem: Shrine World Music Venue

November 5, 2012 by findingpaola

Because we like to party! A taxi up to Adam Clayton Powell between 133rd and 134th, please! That’s the address to a good (dancing) time in Harlem. During the summer I would walk, but it’s close enough that I can cab it with some friends without breaking the bank. When it comes to dancing all night to great music, Shrine World Music Venue never disappoints. The small, quaint party box caters to all crowds, specifically those who appreciate Jazz, Caribbean, […]

“Everyday People”

October 23, 2012 by findingpaola

Another memorable and intriguing party hits the NYC party scene dubbed, “Everyday People.” Hosted by celebrity chef, Roble Ali, Everyday People is a monthly Saturday day-time party/brunch. Cover girls wearing high top sneakers, fitted caps, and neon purses jump around to great 90′s tunes, hip hop and reggae with other industry people. Model DJ’s, popular r&b singers, artists, fashion bloggers, and different stylish New Yorkers all unite under one roof to shake the dance floor. The atmosphere is cool and […]
