“Shop and Mingle” at rena Reborn

November 1, 2012 by findingpaola

On Thursday, October 25, 2012, I collaborated with rena Reborn, one of my favorite little thrift stores in the East Village, for a “shop and mingle” event. My intention was to invite a few friends and anyone who was interested to drink wine, talk, and play dress up. I was hoping for a laid-back atmosphere where everyone could have fun, try on something they liked, and maybe even make a few great purchases. The event also had a raffle where […]

Fall weekend style and some October events

October 8, 2012 by findingpaola

A Saturday night in Harlem, I wasn’t going too far, so I settled with comfy burgundy wedges, a black flirty skirt, animal print top, and electric blue blazer. I realize this morning this is the last time this year, I will be able to wear a short skirt without stockings or leggings. Although the temperature has dropped dramatically, there are still some things that keep me excited for the upcoming weeks! It’s the season for charitable events. I’ve been to […]

#NYFW Mataano Spring/Summer 2013

September 14, 2012 by findingpaola

On Tuesday, I told my colleagues I’d be back in a few hours, and hopped on the train to the Mataano Spring/Summer 2013 fashion show. I arrived all sweaty after realizing I miscalculated my timing and I would be late. To my surprise, two of my favorite models were part of the show! I was so happy to see Diandra whom I met through my friend Abby and  shot with previously for a 4ACES shoot, and Cecily Lopez, a young […]

Harlem on Display

September 13, 2012 by findingpaola

Celebrity chef, Marcus Samuelsson and 5 local Harlem fashion merchants and designers collaborated for a special New York Fashion Week celebration on Monday, September 12, 2012. Channeling the creative spirit of the Harlem Renaissance through the 20′s and 30′s, models and performers came together to put on a show at Ginny’s Supper Club, located right downstairs of famous Harlem Restaurant, Red Rooster. This fashion exhibition was unique in every way. From the dancing to the awesome vintage pieces, Harlem was […]

Ayiti Rasanble

August 8, 2012 by findingpaola

Lincoln Center Presents …. Heritage Sunday AYITI RASANBLE! After our shenanigans in Bryant Park with Lauren (my jumping partner for the Jump File), Tyler and I walked over to Lincoln Center for the Ayiti Rasanble festival. Ayiti Rasanble, translated: Haiti Together, was part of Lincoln Center out of Doors events listed in Time Out New York. I seriously can’t express the joy I felt when I read about it a few weeks ago. As an ultimate representative of Haiti and avid supporter of Haitian arts and culture, […]

Mafrika Music Festival 2012

July 2, 2012 by findingpaola

Afros, dreadlocks, short cuts, bantu knots, and colorful, majestic African head gears graced the dance floor at the Mafrika Music Festival on Sunday, June 24th at Marcus Garvey Park. Beautiful kids held hands, and danced naturally to the powerful sounds of drums. Many, including myself, swayed with eyes closed and hands up in the air. We were not only celebrating African music and culture, but life, love, happiness, youth and of course… summertime! I screamed to the music although I didn’t […]

Figment 2012!

June 14, 2012 by findingpaola

Figment is one of my all time favorite NYC events. The two-day event takes place on Governor’s island, and only happens once a year. This was my third time going, and the tradition is to go on the second day. I’ve always been lucky to go with people as energetic and imaginative as me. As expected, Figment did not disappoint! The idea is to enjoy the art and be part of it. I always feel like I’ve stepped into a […]

Open House at Studio Museum in Harlem

December 21, 2011 by findingpaola

Last Friday, as I was flipping through my subscription of Time Out Magazine of the week, I noticed the Studio Museum in Harlem was having an open house with complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. I grabbed my co-worker and only person who puts up with my last minute shenanigans that I refer to as “adventures”, got on the C train right from work and made my way to 125th Street. The event staff was extremely accommodating. I was so impressed […]
