I am no makeup guru or beauty expert, but I receive a fair amount of messages asking to do more beauty posts so here I am! Years ago, I was more interested in makeup, and wanted to collect all sorts of new palettes, brushes, and whatnot, but all that has stopped. I have new priorities, but I still enjoy makeup very much. I developed a routine that I became comfortable with. I also think less is more in terms of make up, although everyone knows how much I love my super bright lips! I do some contouring at times, but I’m not a superstar, so I don’t try to take over 10 minutes to do my makeup on the regular unless I’m going to a really important event.

I always get asked what products I use on my skin, and none of the products are very fancy. My best friend right now is coconut oil. I also really enjoy Yamerra‘s mango butter. I wear both on my hair and skin. When I’m in a rush, I just go for my jar of coconut oil. It makes my skin extremely soft, and it adds a nice sheen and glow to it. Yamerra’s Mango butter smells so delicious, and it’s amazing in my hair when I just want to do a quick seal after I add a leave in. It’s also amazing on my skin. My all time favorite facial moisturizer remains the Clinique “dramatically different moisturizing lotion”. I’ve been using that baby for over 5 years, and I swear by it! My face loves it in both summer and winter months. I’ve tried others, and they just can’t compare.

In terms of face makeup, I believe once you find a good foundation or face makeup routine that works for you, your makeup will always look good. No makeup is good without a decent base, and that’s finding a good foundation or concealer and powder combination that matches your skin tone and covers exactly what it needs to. I’ve seen people focus on the eye makeup, when their foundation doesn’t match the skin, and it always ends up looking disastrous in photos.

My favorite foundations are: Makeup Forever HD and Chanel Perfection Lumiere. I’ve tried at least 6 other foundations, and these are all the way at the very top. Revlon makes some good foundation too if you’re on a budget, but you have to work a lot more to get the desired result. I’m talking about several sponges, brushes, or some kind of applicator. These two foundations can be applied with just your fingers, they just melt on your skin, and the results are just phenomenal. They feel very light and look natural too!

Everyone knows how I love to wear bright lips so I decided to feature three brands that carry great shades of reds and pink for black girls. NYX lipsticks are extremely affordable at $2.99-$3.99 per tube. They’re long-lasting and look amazing. OCC, which stands for Obsessive Compulsive Cosmetics speaks for itself with the name. A little bit goes a long way. It doesn’t come out, you can wear the application all day, and the pigment stays there. And of course, MAC’s lipsticks are always a great investment. They carry so many shades of reds, pinks, and oranges, that you’re bound to find something that goes with your skin tone.

I hope this was helpful! Please leave in the comments below what you’d like to see more of in terms of makeup and beauty posts!

Your make-up looks great! Bold, but not overdone. Do you use the coconut oil on your face too, or just on the body?

Thanks Jhan! I only use the coconut oil on my body. You can use the oil on your face it’s light enough, but i would use it for as a makeup remover or facial treatment than a moisturizer especially for day time. You need something light with spf in it.

I really like the mufe foundation but often I find finding the right colour is a pain.. I actually found this website by ps beauty, they have done a foundation finder and I really liked it, I was actually going to pick totally the wrong shade.. I’m in the Uk and we don’t have Sephora here so I can only get mufe online hence the problem :( maybe you could do a review of it though?

Beautiful pics! I’m not big on make up! Although I have always invest in some great products liked Mac, Clinique to name a few, but I still don’t know how to do my make up on my own besides applying the base and cover up with a light powder! I’m not horrible but I’m alright! But when I have important events I leave it up to my mommy or sometimes pay a friend to do it for me. Honestly, I have fell In love with your contour and bright lips since day one and I won’t stop hii hii!
    Very nice!

Merci! Tu dois essayer le Chanel. C’est très facile à appliquer. J’utilise les doigts pour faire l’application et voila! J’adore!
