Last Saturday, we woke up early, and got ready for an amazing adventure in the Hudson Valley. We took the Metro North to Beacon, less than two hours away from Manhattan for a good rendezvous with nature. Central Park really doesn’t cut it sometimes when you really want to go for a nice, long walk in the woods.
My boss invited us to go hike with her and her partner near her town, and it was one of the best hikes I’ve ever had. A great view is always a good incentive for a hike. I thought it was fun and challenging, but not too challenging. I’m no outdoor expert or anything but it was just what I needed that day.
The hike took about 3.5 hours. I just loved that we had to climb, and not just walk. I loved using my entire body to get to higher. We had to use all the different nooks in the rocks and sometimes even take steps that were abnormal just to go up a little farther. At times, it was scary because it felt like we were really close to the edge, but nothing was too slippery. Once you found a good nook in the rocks to put your feet, it was all a piece of cake.
I would like to make that hike one of my regular things to do on the weekend. It’s just very fun exercise. Being at the top, away from it all, just felt great. Anyone, no matter how much they love the hustle and bustle of the great city, would appreciate a little peace and quiet with mother nature sometimes.
