Paola… Lost in New York City

Haitian rum, cupcakes, and birthday wishes

A night for pleasure seekers in Harlem. That’s what I thought of when  I really wanted to  celebrate on Saturday night to continue with my birthday festivities. Drinks, dancing, laughs with good friends in an intimate setting. Right after the apple-picking adventure, Jess and her boyfriend, along with Tyler, were the only ones who stayed for the night’s shenanigans. Together, we formed a little party committee to get ready for another group of friends for another amazing time. Jess and I went to the big girls’ store in search for Haitian rum, while the boys went to the little boys’ store to find beer, and different foods to make hors d’oeuvres. On our way back, I stopped by 67 Orange Street to reserve the downstairs room for my group of friends. My intention was that everyone tried my favorite current cocktail, The Hedonist, and experience a great cocktail bar in Harlem.

Tyler made an amazing eggplant dip and bruschetta. And Zach had the most clever idea to try Peach Habanero Jam on a slices of baguettes with a good hard cheese. So delicious! Jessica came up with mixing Rhum Barbancourt with apple cider and ginger beer for a fall cocktail, and it was a huge hit! And I… well, I ran my mouth? My friend Claudia brought me some cupcakes from the famous Magnolia cupcake when she stopped by my apartment right before our apple picking, and that’s what we used as a birthday cake.

ahhh! cupcake attack!

One of my favorite things is having a bunch of my friends meet under an occasion I’ve planned because I know such an eclectic group of people. They don’t all work in the same industry, or have the same backgrounds or interests. They don’t all look alike, or live in the same places. They are all so different from each other, yet they have one strong connection, I absolutely adore them.  They’re great, talented, amazing, hardworking people who love to have fun. So when they come together, they also generally get along no matter how different they may seem, and that makes me really happy.

My poor boyfriend and that red lipstick :)
