When the sun licks just lightly the top of the trees andĀ buildings and hugs them with its warm, comforting hues, that’s when I like to go and photograph Harlem. Sometimes, I run on the streets, right around the circle on 110th by the Frederick Douglass statue, everything looks so calm and serene, particularly when skaters are not occupying the circle. Sometimes, I just sit on my couch and admires the soft yellow, pink, and orange tinted clouds right above Morningside Park and Harlem rooftops. I also like to go on the roof to stare at other roofs. You can tell a lot about people based on what they decide to do with their roofs.
My favorite roof is filled with flowers and plants, and right behind all of the foliage, a nice comfy couch is tucked away, for reading, I imagine. It belongs to a couple just across the street. Sometimes, I can see them moving around their garden together, watering and tending to their plants.
I love my Harlem views. I love walking around Harlem streets. Especially around sunset, right before dusk. Enjoy these beautiful pictures from Harlem.

Oh Paola, this light! I can’t handle it. Dusk (and very early morning) is my favorite time of day.
The way you describe your home so beautifully makes me think of the city in a new way (in a new light perhaps?). I love seeing it through your eyes!
Thank you so much, this makes me happy. As a person who enjoys yoga, I always picture myself waking up at dawn to admire the city on the roof, but it hasn’t happened yet. I’m afraid I’m a night owl.
I’ve never realized how small NY is. http://orangepalantir.org/files/city_streets.jpg
Great pictures.
Thank you Matt! A serious response?! I’m so surprised! Haha
Serious response? Then you like what I did to the picture?
I decided to ignore that part.
Awesome photos Paola and I love your descriptive writeup too. I’m kind of a country boy but love the city as well.
Sorry if I missed you saying it a previous post, but what kind of camera do you use? It works very well with various lighting.
Thanks so much! I use a Nikon D5000. I’ve been messing around with the Manual settings. Before, I was all about Auto and “night setting”. Haha!
I love Harlem! Great pics.
I know you do.
It’s your home away from home.
Gorgeous pictures. My three favorites are the ones with the sunsetting and the buildings/skylines. Tres jolie Paola.
Merci, ma belle!
Paola! Your photos are beautiful. Now that the days are so much shorter I never get home fast enough to capture sunset moments. Thanks for sharing. Harlem is so beautiful.
I know what you mean! This make me so sad. I hate short days, give me sunshine!
