Celebrity chef, Marcus Samuelsson and 5 local Harlem fashion merchants and designers collaborated for a special New York Fashion Week celebration on Monday, September 12, 2012. Channeling the creative spirit of the Harlem Renaissance through the 20′s and 30′s, models and performers came together to put on a show at Ginny’s Supper Club, located right downstairs of famous Harlem Restaurant, Red Rooster. This fashion exhibition was unique in every way. From the dancing to the awesome vintage pieces, Harlem was alive at Ginny’s.
The designers and boutiques who collaborated for the event were the following:
The Saturday before the show, I stopped by JB B.O.R.N in Harlem to write a piece about the store since it’s one of my favorite stores in Harlem. (Post to come soon.) I met with Jon, the owner and man behind the vision, briefly while he was busy preparing for the show. He took one look at me, and snatched me to participate. How could I say no to something involving Red Rooster, Harlem, and amazing vintage fashion?
On Monday, I left work early, and rushed from Midtown to Harlem as fast as I could. I met some of the sweetest girls behind-the-scenes. Such beauties! I fell in love with all of the clothing involved. Did I mention how much I love vintage clothes? Well, now you know. The event was a big success, and I had such a good time. My boyfriend and friends came to support me, and we continued the party in Harlem hopping from Corner Social to Yatenga for food and drinks.
Some fun candid shots of the night.
