Paola… Lost in New York City

Dress up for work

I keep it simple for work. I tend to stray away from trends and shop classic pieces for my professional life. I do a lot of my work-shopping online on discounted website like ideeli.com. They always have great collections of designers (Calvin Klein, Ellen Tracy, etc) with good quality at my price range. I also visit stores like Loehmann’s and Banana Republic for nice, quality work clothes on a budget. I still get bright, girly colors, but the cut is usually very simple like the dress above.

My makeup for work is also generally very simple. I don’t really wear makeup to work unless I have a meeting with an outsider or I’m going to an event. I carry a travel-sized makeup kit in my purse should anything arise. In the summer, I wear tinted moisturizer as my base, a thin line on my lids, and soft lipstick. My makeup outside of work is very different, I love gold, and blue gel liners on the eyes and bright lipstick, which I’m sure you’ve noticed.

Last week, my colleague randomly invited me to a work event- a cruise around Manhattan with open bar, hors d’oeuvres and buffet-style dining. He knew I was the only person who would accept the offer at the very last minute. Everyone knows I never say “no” to free events, especially those with open bars. Of course I learned I was his last option in the office, but that still didn’t stop me from going. I was setting my dignity aside for that one. All joking aside, I had a great time networking and connecting with other people in my industry. There’s something about watching the Manhattan skyline while drinking a cocktail that never gets old to me. Every single time it catches my breath. I love this beautiful city.

Check out those sweet pictures I took below.

  1. Gorgeous views of the city and sky. Lovely feminine office wear. Please share a video on how you achieved the look – elegant make up and hair too. Thanks for sharing…. PS – I’m like you – never saying no to a free invite. Be grateful for the opportunity to meet new people, experience some thing new and still get free nibbles and drinks. Priceless.

    • Thank you for the feedback. I have been really lazy with making videos, maybe I should continue. :) I actually really love office wear. I never get a headache when I get ready for work.
