Above 96th Street

July 31, 2012 by findingpaola

Deciding to move in Harlem has been one of the best decisions I’ve ever made since living on my own. I absolutely love my neighborhood, and the love strengthens the longer I live there. I love all the of the new businesses and the old. I love the proximity of Central Park and Morningside Park from my apartment. I love being greeted “good morning” and “have a nice day, beautiful” nearly every day. I love making friends with the small […]

On the set of Porcella

July 25, 2012 by findingpaola

I was chosen to act in a short film the first week of July. I’ve never acted in my life, and from the time I went to the audition, I knew it would be an experience I would never forget. It was something I did at random, like most things in my life. Around my lunch break, I took the train to Soho to meet with the director, Natalia Chinchilla, a NYFA student from Colombia. Natalia and I clicked from the […]

la playa

July 24, 2012 by findingpaola

A fun, activity-filled day at the beach with new friends is what everyone needs in the summer. I jumped on the LIRR from Penn Station to Long Beach to meet up with a group of athletes, which after that, I’m definitely inspired to get back to working out. For me it’s always an off-and-on thing, and I need to find a way to make it permanent. I’m not talking about just hula-hooping or going for long walks. I need to bring […]

Lower Manhattan Jump!

July 22, 2012 by findingpaola

Lauren and I stopped at Wall Street for the Charging Bull, World Trade Center for formally the  Freedom Tower  (now known as 1WTC), National Museum of the American Indian, and City Hall. An Israeli tourist joined us for the Charging Bull jumps. Lauren and I absolutely love this part of our jumping project, we get to meet so many people! At first we used to ask complete strangers to take our jumping photos, now we just ask them to join […]

Battery Park Jump!

July 20, 2012 by findingpaola

Battery Park, located just next to South Ferry on the southern end of Manhattan, faces the New York Harbor. It provides a great view of the Statue of Liberty, and many boats come and leave from the waterfront to transport visitors to the monument. Lauren and I finally jumped Battery Park. It was a wonderful cloudy day, and it wasn’t too hot. We jumped in front of the sphere, which was once located at the center of the plaza of […]

Rose petals, henna tattoos, and dancing tunes

July 16, 2012 by findingpaola

Wedding season is finally over for me and Tyler. The last one we went to was my third for the year and fourth for him. He was in the wedding party for three of them. All were beautiful and different in their very own ways. This particular wedding was very special for us for many reasons. The first is that it was Tyler’s brother’s wedding. Second, he was the best man. Third, it was Indian themed, and we’ve never been to […]

“Dreamers and Seekers”

July 8, 2012 by findingpaola

“We’re here for the bird watching.” We told the guard at the gate. He looked at us with a suspicious eye, and pointed towards the parking lot. Our car was one of about 9 cars in a lot that can fit hundreds. As we were getting there with our hula hoops, coolers, boom box,  blankets, and other beach stuff, others were leaving. It was about 3:30 in the afternoon, but still very sunny and hot on the beach. It […]

Lovely ladies swing dancing under the moon light

July 6, 2012 by findingpaola

We met on 66th Street right in front of Lincoln Center. Aissata stood beautifully in a bright coral dressed that complimented her deep brown complexion, and I walked up with a stream of sweat trickling down my back although my dress was backless. My ‘fro picked out, lips painted a hot pink, I was ready for a night of dancing under the moon light. I read about Midsummer Night Swing in a Timeout magazine, and I knew I would love […]
