I took a long walk around the Cliff Walk with Tyler and his mom during my short stay in Newport. It’s one of those attractions that encourage me to travel within the US. There are so many beautiful things that are just so close I have not yet seen. I’m definitely inspired to explore more the east coast and eventually venture out west and other interesting places in between.
The Cliff Walk is right between the ocean and the beautiful historical mansions of Newport. The mansions were occupied by the wealthiest of New Yorkers who would travel north for the summer just to throw extravagant parties in the 1800s. It is known that they weren’t very nice about share the cliff walk with passers-by. They would station guard dogs, and plant trees right in the middle of the path to stop people from walking there.
Now the Preservation Society of Newport does an excellent job at the up-keep of the attraction. I loved the many different tips of flowers that lined it. It was fun to walk on giant rocks and go under small cavernous passageways.
I definitely want to return to Newport his Summer. I want to stay in a small bed and breakfast, go to the beach, and eat at the small French café. Walk the cliff-walk and fully enjoy the little town.
