I was going out for a Friday night and decided I wanted to dress both comfortably and a little out of my comfort zone (if that makes sense). I wanted to be able to move as freely as I could because I had planned to do all the high kicks and acrobatic moves on the dance floor that night. It was a long work week and I thought I deserved that much. I also wanted to be a bit daring and add some spice to my outfit.
I decided to wear some velvet leggings I bought around Christmas but never wore before, a leather vest, and leopard print top. I finished the look with extremely bright red lips and not-so-subtle gold jewelry. I was having difficulties on how to wear my hair that night, so I just went with my fro sans-headwear.
It turns out my outfit was just right for the night. We ended up going to Work In Progress, a night club in some basement in Soho full of artsy people. I loved the music because they played a good mix of old school hip hop, pop, and reggae instead of the usual awful TOP 40 hits. Let’s say I did multiple back bends, high kicks, and slow robot moves that night. My ears kept ringing the whole time the following day. I guess I’m getting old…

I loved Work In Progress. Unlike the many other “exclusive” night clubs in NYC, we were able to get in just fine without a promoter. The place was also packed with models, who weren’t just wall flowers like other venues. They were actually dancing and having a good time. The space is great and can actually be called a dance floor. The dancers were literally walking disco balls. We met some nice people who invited us over to their table. I had a fantastic time.
