noir et blanc

February 27, 2012 by findingpaola

To me in life, some things are as clear as black and white, but many things– sometimes too many– fall under a gray category. The gray categories are the unclear things to me that maybe I’ll never understand, or once I think I start to understand, they get even more complicated. The hardest (or maybe most interesting) part is that there are so many shades of gray, at times I get confused and categorize some of these life issues under […]

Vin sur Vingt

February 22, 2012 by findingpaola

I love anything that reminds me of Paris. When I read about the little French wine bar in Time Out, I knew I had to make an appearance. The name alone is very clever. To a French speaker it sounds like “twenty over twenty”, in other words, “one hundred percent”, but it really reads, “wine over twenty”. It was really everything I imagined it would be after reading the short article in Time Out. It was dark, cozy, beautiful, simple, […]

Negro

February 19, 2012 by findingpaola

I love wearing black on black outfits. But what I really love is wearing all black with bright accessories and bold lips. It was an easy Sunday. I was going for a nice neighborhood walk, and pulled out a black tank top and pants from my closet. I really just wanted to be simple and throw on some flat shoes; however, after tying my head wrap, I decided to do a full makeup application. Sometimes, I do things without thinking, […]

Un grand plaisir

February 15, 2012 by findingpaola

Walking by the water around midnight with Sara, looking over the water into Manhattan made me realize what an amazing night I had. Everything was so serene from where we stood. We stared at the lights, talked about everything and most of the time just nothing at all. Just before we went for our late night walk, we kicked off the heels and made sure we wore extra layers, it’s always colder by the water. And for some reason, we […]

Chocolate truffles

February 13, 2012 by findingpaola

Instead of drooling over La Maison du Chocolat’s sweet delicacies this year, I’m sneaking some delicious treats from my very own fridge! Made by my boyfriend and rolled into balls by me, these chocolate truffles are rich and just delightful. My boyfriend loves making things at home. From a warm loaf of bread, to pickled goods, he is always excited to try anything. He’s already tried to talk me into making bitters for cocktails or cured meats, but the sound […]

New York Fashion Week: BCBGMaxAzria Show

February 10, 2012 by findingpaola

Bon Chic Bon Genre (Good Style Good Attitude) is what BCBG stands for I found out yesterday after I went to my very first NYFW show. Well, I didn’t find out at the show, I googled it because I always wondered what it stood for, and I felt obligated to know after meeting the designer. When my boss mentioned the show to me just two days before, I was ecstatic! I’ve never been to a glamorous, big time fashion show before and […]

Paola and Sara Take NYC (Mint)

February 8, 2012 by findingpaola

Last week, Sara and I browsed the NYCGo website for participating restaurants in the 20th Annual NYC Restaurant Week for our weekly adventure. One lucky restaurant was going to be our main distraction for that evening. Sara’s mind was set on Indian cuisine, and I really didn’t care what kind of food I was going to consume as long as it was tasty and mostly not junk. My only rule was to pick a place I’ve never tried. After ignoring […]

Discovering Harlem: Franz James Floral Boutique

February 6, 2012 by findingpaola

I walked up to the flower shop on my block on Sunday and introduced myself to one of the owners. I’ve always admired that shop, it always caught my attention every time I walk by.  I find it aesthetically pleasing and a real asset to the neighborhood so I stopped by to say hello. Franz James Floral Boutique is owned by two gentlemen. Jimmy is the designer and takes care of all of the flowers, and Franz handles the business […]
