Christmas in Vermont

December 30, 2011 by findingpaola

I made my way up north again this year to celebrate Christmas with my boyfriend and his family. It always feels good to leave New York for a few days and go somewhere like Vermont to relax and get away from the city’s hassles. It’s also always wonderful seeing happy, familiar faces, a good wood stove, and trees everywhere. It makes me think of how spoiled New Yorkers have been this winter. Vermont is easily 20 degrees colder than […]

A very close stranger

December 23, 2011 by findingpaola

Yesterday I had the pleasure of meeting Choumika, a very inspiring young woman. She is of Haitian descent, but was born and raised in New York City. She recently graduated from Cornell University, and went to Haiti for the first time this year to intern for Children’s Nutrition Program of Haiti and help out. She aspires to be a doctor, but she is thrilled to learn about her culture, and travel some more before she heads over to medical school. […]

Open House at Studio Museum in Harlem

December 21, 2011 by findingpaola

Last Friday, as I was flipping through my subscription of Time Out Magazine of the week, I noticed the Studio Museum in Harlem was having an open house with complimentary cocktails and hors d’oeuvres. I grabbed my co-worker and only person who puts up with my last minute shenanigans that I refer to as “adventures”, got on the C train right from work and made my way to 125th Street. The event staff was extremely accommodating. I was so impressed […]

Fresh Moroccan

December 17, 2011 by findingpaola

Winter is finally here. I originally purchased the MAC lipstick, Fresh Moroccan for the spring season, but I’m loving it right now. It’s a mixture of maroon and bright glittery, orangey red. I think it’s perfect for casual or evening wear. It’s just great if you want your lips to pop. I was on my way out to visit many of the holiday pop-up shops in the city that day. It was a work project, but being that I had […]

Elvin the Elf

December 12, 2011 by findingpaola

Anyone who knows me knows that I love heart-shaped sunglasses, hula hoops, dance parties, singing off key, and dressing up among many other things. Last Saturday, I was able to incorporate all of the above during my second Santa Con celebration. Talk about a good day for me! The day started with cleaning up because I had a small crowd to entertain. By 12:45 all my friends were already at my apartment. The plan was to have a nice festive […]

Holiday Pop-up Shops 2011

December 8, 2011 by findingpaola

An article I wrote for work… Reds, greens, and sparkles dance about everywhere we look.  Christmas tree vendors and the sweet smell of pine take up the sidewalks.  Our favorite department stores’ holiday windows compete with extravagant, unique themes. The Rockefeller Christmas tree is lit. And you know what else? Shops are just popping up everywhere in the city. From Soho, to Times Square, to the Upper East Side, these pop-up shops are open just for the holiday season to ameliorate […]

Alice in Wonderland, The Lake, Cleopatra’s Needle, and Met Jump!

December 5, 2011 by findingpaola

Cleopatra’s Needle is the oldest man-made monument in Central Park, made in 1500BC. I was glad to see the other one when I visit London so I decided to include it in the jump! It took 112 days to bring the 244-ton granite monument from Egypt to New York City. It’s just spectacular! The Alice in Wonderland statue has been in Central Park since 1959. It was commissioned by George Delacorte, made for the children in the park. Being a […]
